Large Or Small We Can House Them All. Prime Stables Build a Tortoise House

A couple of months ago, our design team were set the challenge by a local resident to help come up with a design within a budget to supply and install a bespoke Tortoise house for rare giant tortoises.

The breeds to be housed were Adalbra & Sulcatas which are amongst the largest breeds in the world and can grow up to 250kg and anything up to 1.0m in length. It is not unheard of for an Adalbra tortoise to grow up to an incredible 360kg.

So as you can imagine our brief to build a structure with our animal friendly treatment that was robust, attractive and extremely well insulated gave us a welcome challenge that we just could not resist.

The breeds of tortoises are very powerful as adults, and can be destructive in a typical suburban setting, capable of ramming through fences and doors. All this had to be taken in to consideration at the design phase.

Also within our remit we had to come up with a build to contain the tortoises and help keep them at a comfortable temperature throughout the year

(80-95°F 27-35°C).

We recently completed the installation and all went very smoothly. Here are a couple of pictures and as you can see the tortoises are now in their new home and  certainly look very happy.
